Luis de la Fuente has extended his contract with the Spanish national team until 2028, with his salary now matching Luis Enrique's at €3 million per year.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially announced the contract extension of head coach Luis de la Fuente, who last summer led La Roja back to the top of European football.
De la Fuente's previous contract was valid until the end of the 2026 World Cup, but it was signed before the start of the European Championship, meaning his salary did not reflect the achievements of a coach who secured a major continental title. The federation has now rectified this by extending his contract until 2028. According to Sport, De la Fuente will now earn an annual salary of €3 million gross, the same amount received by his predecessor, Luis Enrique.
Previously, De la Fuente was reportedly earning just €430,000 per year, a figure deemed inadequate for a European Championship-winning coach.
De la Fuente took charge of the Spanish national team in December 2022, following Spain's exit in the round of 16 at the World Cup.
