Spartak Moscow has made a significant change in its transfer strategy, abandoning its pursuit of Ivan Ilić and instead securing a record-breaking deal for Levi Garcia.
The Serbian midfielder was on the verge of joining Spartak, with a high transfer fee in play. He was even spotted at the airport, reportedly en route to Russia. However, the deal collapsed, and Spartak decided to move in a different direction.
Spartak signs record-breaking striker
Despite missing out on Ilić, Spartak Moscow still pulled off a major transfer, paying €18.7 million to sign Levi Garcia from AEK Athens.
The 27-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international becomes the most expensive signing in Spartak’s history, surpassing the club’s previous record of €18 million.
Garcia’s journey to Moscow
Garcia has spent the last five years in Greece with AEK Athens, previously playing for AZ Alkmaar and two clubs in Israel. This season, he has contributed 10 goals and three assists in 22 appearances, playing a key role in AEK’s title fight.
Coming from Trinidad and Tobago, the southernmost island country in the Caribbean, Garcia now takes a bold step in his career, moving to the Russian Premier League in a record-breaking deal.
