Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetić signs a two-year deal with Cypriot club Omonia, joining former Lokomotiva captain Mateo Marić.
Stevan Jovetić, the legendary Montenegrin footballer, has found a new club for the season, signing a two-year contract with Omonia Nicosia. Jovetić joins the Cypriot side as a free agent after his contract with Olympiacos ended last season, following their Conference League win.
Jovetić, now 33, is set to be a key attacking player for Omonia, who currently sit second in the league after five rounds. Upon his arrival in Nicosia, he was welcomed by Mateo Marić, last season's Lokomotiva Zagreb captain, who also moved to Cyprus earlier this summer.
Jovetić, who made his professional debut at 15 years old with Mladost Podgorica before moving to Partizan, is one of the few players to have played in all of Europe’s top five leagues (Serie A, Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1). His career saw him play for Fiorentina and Inter in Italy, Manchester City in England, Sevilla in Spain, Hertha Berlin in Germany, and Monaco in France.
For Montenegro, Jovetić has earned 80 caps and scored 36 goals, making him the country's all-time leading scorer. He is also the second-most capped player, trailing only Fatos Bećiraj, who holds the record with 86 appearances but could soon be surpassed by Jovetić.
