The Swedish second-division club Östersunds has terminated the contract of their longtime goalkeeper Aly Keita, who was arrested for driving under the influence of cocaine.
Aly Keita, a Sweden-born Guinean goalkeeper, was living a dangerous double life, which has now cost him everything, and he faces a long prison sentence for multiple suspected offenses.
Since 2014, Keita had been the first-choice goalkeeper for Östersunds, who currently play in the Swedish second division. However, this week, he was arrested for driving under the influence of cocaine, leading to a 50-day prison sentence. The club has since severed ties with him.
"Aly Keita has been an important part of Östersunds for a long time. We greatly appreciate everything he has done for this club, and that’s why this decision was all the more difficult," said Östersunds in a statement.
Driving under the influence of cocaine appears to be just one part of his dangerous private life. Swedish prosecutors have also filed charges against him for alleged money laundering. During a police investigation, a large amount of money was found in Keita’s home, which he could not explain the origin of.
Keita has made 24 appearances for the Guinea national team.
