Maribor’s preparations for the Celje derby turned chaotic as Benjamin Tetteh and Omar Rekik clashed in training, with coach Radomir Đalović now reportedly weighing his future.
Maribor’s preparations for the crucial league clash with Celje have been overshadowed by an incident in training, where Benjamin Tetteh and Omar Rekik came to blows.
Witnesses say Rekik made a hard challenge, which sparked a furious reaction from Tetteh. Teammates and coach Radomir Đalović had to intervene as tempers flared, with Đalović reportedly struck in the scuffle while trying to separate the players.
Both players were sent off the pitch and later reconciled in the dressing room, where they apologised to the team and to the visibly shaken coach. The club has so far declined to comment on the matter.
Adding to the drama, sources close to Nogomania suggest that Đalović is considering walking away from the club. The Montenegrin coach only recently stabilised Maribor with three straight league wins, but questions over his long-term commitment persist. His indecision mirrors earlier uncertainty during contract talks, when he briefly walked away before returning the following day.
With Celje already holding a significant lead at the top of the table, Maribor had hoped to channel their recent momentum into the Styrian derby. Instead, unrest inside the squad has left fans anxious about both the dressing room harmony and the future of the coach.
