Juventus eyes Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson for a January move. If signed, Ferguson would become only the second Scot in the club’s history after Willie Aitken.
Juventus is expected to be very active in the January transfer window, with injuries to Bremer and Cabal leaving the defense in need of reinforcements. However, midfield is another area where Thiago Motta is eager to strengthen, and one of his primary targets is Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson.
The 25-year-old Scottish midfielder has been a standout performer for Bologna, contributing 13 goals in 65 appearances across all competitions under Motta’s management. Despite being plagued by injuries this season, Ferguson remains highly rated by his former coach, who is keen to bring his leadership and versatility to Turin.
Juventus midfield revamp dependent on departures
Juventus’s pursuit of Ferguson could depend on the club's ability to sell existing midfielders during the January window. Reports suggest that Nicolo Fagioli and Douglas Luiz could be moved on, but only if attractive offers are received. Regardless, Juventus is determined to strengthen their backline, meaning defensive reinforcements remain the top priority.
Rare Scottish connection
If Ferguson joins Juventus, he would become only the second Scottish player to represent the Turin giants in the club’s history. The first was forward Willie Aitken, who played for the Bianconeri between 1928 and 1930. Ferguson's move would mark a rare Scottish presence at one of Italy’s most storied clubs.
With Ferguson’s performances in Serie A already attracting attention, his potential move to Juventus could further elevate his career while addressing key needs for Motta’s squad.
