Thibaut Courtois reflects on Kylian Mbappé's struggles at Real Madrid, offering advice on patience and defending the forward's professionalism.
After Real Madrid's match against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu, Thibaut Courtois weighed in on Kylian Mbappé’s situation, offering insight into the difficulties the French forward has faced since joining the club.
Courtois emphasized that Mbappé's issues are not related to his goal-scoring abilities, as he often displays brilliance during training sessions.
The Belgian goalkeeper related Mbappé’s challenges to his own early struggles adapting to the high-pressure environment of Real Madrid.
"The demands of the Bernabéu and Real Madrid are not easy. You know where you're coming and what to expect, but that doesn’t make it simple," Courtois remarked.
Patience and hard work are key
Courtois believes the key to overcoming such challenges lies in staying calm and focusing on fundamentals:
"It’s similar to what happened to me. The demands here are enormous. The more you try, sometimes the less things work out. He needs to stay calm, focus on doing the simple things right, and then tackle the more difficult ones. Once that clicks, the goals will come."
"It's not about lack of effort or commitment"
The Belgian also defended Mbappé, insisting his struggles are not due to a lack of professionalism or dedication.
"What’s happening isn’t because he isn’t trying or lacks commitment. It’s the same thing that happened to me at the beginning. Sometimes things just don’t work out, and you need a breakthrough game to turn the tide. I’m sure it will happen for him soon," Courtois added.
A turning point is on the horizon
Courtois closed with encouraging words, expressing confidence that Mbappé will find his rhythm soon.
"I think his goal today came from his most difficult chance, and I hope it helps him build confidence. Hopefully, he scores a hat-trick against Athletic Bilbao," Courtois concluded.
