Bayern legend Thomas Müller shared his thoughts on Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona and admitted he would have chosen Bayern Munich.
Anthony Gordon’s decision to join Barcelona instead of Bayern Munich has sparked discussion in Germany, with club legend Thomas Müller openly questioning the winger’s choice.
The England international completed his dream move to Barcelona earlier this summer, impressing supporters during his presentation by speaking fluent Spanish and even using a few words in Catalan.
However, Barcelona were not alone in the race. Bayern Munich reportedly pushed strongly for Gordon, only to see the winger quickly choose the Spanish champions.
Müller admitted he finds the decision difficult to understand and suggested football reasons were not the only factor involved.
"When Barcelona and Bayern call you, what is the most important factor that decides you? I can't imagine Anthony Gordon choosing Barcelona primarily because of the sun and palm trees. How would I have decided? Of course, I would have signed for Bayern Munich."
The comments from the Bayern veteran immediately created debate because Gordon himself has repeatedly described Barcelona as his childhood dream club.
The 25-year-old recently explained that he learned Spanish years ago because he always believed he would eventually play for Barcelona, suggesting the move had emotional importance beyond sporting factors.
From Bayern’s perspective, missing out on one of England’s biggest attacking talents is a disappointment. From Barcelona’s perspective, securing a player wanted by Europe’s elite strengthens the club’s new project under Hansi Flick.
Now attention shifts from transfer debates to performances on the pitch, where Gordon faces the challenge of adapting quickly to Spanish football and proving Barcelona made the right investment.
