Tiago Djaló, on loan at Porto from Juventus, has been dropped from the squad for disciplinary reasons related to late-night outings and now trains separately from the team.
Tiago Djaló’s return to Portugal has taken a sour turn. The Juventus-owned defender, currently on loan at FC Porto, has reportedly been punished by the club for undisciplined behaviour off the pitch, including a series of late-night outings that breached internal rules.
Djaló, 25, joined Juventus in January last year, but was loaned out to Porto six months later to regain form and fitness after injury. While his performances weren’t poor—he featured in eight league matches—his lack of discipline has overshadowed his contributions.
According to local media, Djaló has been excluded from the matchday squad since February and no longer trains with the first team. Instead, he trains alone at 7 a.m. daily, in what’s described as a disciplinary measure by the club. The defender hasn’t played a single minute since the punishment was issued.
Despite flashes of promise—including a debut for the Portuguese national team last year—Djaló’s reputation has taken a hit. Porto is enduring a disappointing season, sitting fourth in the table and ten points behind leaders Sporting. While the club’s defence has remained solid, goalscoring has been the main issue, not the backline—making Djaló's off-field actions harder to tolerate.
Having previously played for Sporting, AC Milan, and Lille, Djaló had been linked with top European clubs before his move to Juventus. But at this point, it’s unlikely that Porto will exercise any option to keep him beyond the summer. The defender is expected to return to Juventus after the season ends.
