Tottenham have slipped into the relegation zone after West Ham’s win, piling pressure on new coach Roberto De Zerbi ahead of his debut.
Tottenham Hotspur have fallen into the relegation zone, and the situation in North London has quickly turned into a full crisis.
The turning point came after West Ham United stunned Wolves with a 4-0 away win. That result lifted West Ham to 17th place and pushed Tottenham down to 18th, a position that leads directly to the Championship.
The pressure is now immediate.
Tottenham travel to face Sunderland in the next round, and only a win will be enough. Any other result would leave them stuck in the danger zone.
All eyes are on Roberto De Zerbi, who has not even made his debut yet but is already under intense scrutiny.
The Italian coach arrived just days ago and will take charge of his first match in extremely difficult circumstances. On the other side will be a Sunderland team that has surprised many this season and will not lack confidence.
The pressure is not only coming from the table.
De Zerbi is also facing skepticism from fans due to his recent spell at Marseille, particularly because of the Mason Greenwood situation. He will need results quickly to win over the supporters.
His latest comments have not helped ease concerns. He stated that he does not see himself as a better coach than Thomas Frank or Igor Tudor, both of whom struggled during their time in charge.
Meanwhile, West Ham can breathe more easily after their big win.
They now sit outside the relegation zone and will face Crystal Palace next in a London derby, with a chance to further secure their position.
For Tottenham, however, the situation is clear.
The margin for error is gone, and the fight for survival has already begun.
