Tottenham suffered a humiliating 4-2 defeat at Wolves, while Chelsea was held 2-2 by relegation-threatened Ipswich, denting their hopes of securing a Champions League spot.
Tottenham Hotspur hit a new low in their dismal Premier League season with a 4-2 defeat at Wolves, piling more pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou. Meanwhile, Chelsea failed to capitalise in the race for the top five, drawing 2-2 against Ipswich Town at Stamford Bridge.
At Molineux, Wolves struck early through Rayan Ait-Nouri, who volleyed home in just the second minute. Tottenham’s defensive frailties were on full display again when a cross deflected off keeper Guglielmo Vicario and ricocheted into the net via Djed Spence for a calamitous own goal in the 38th minute.
Mathys Tel gave Spurs a glimmer of hope, converting Brennan Johnson’s cross in the 59th minute. But Wolves responded swiftly, with Jorgen Strand Larsen tapping in after a defensive error from Cristian Romero.
Richarlison bundled home in the 85th minute, but Wolves sealed the win less than a minute later when Matheus Cunha punished a careless turnover from Lucas Bergvall.
Spurs are now 15th in the table, matching their worst finish since the 1993-94 season, and Postecoglou’s future appears uncertain. Their only remaining lifeline lies in the Europa League, where they face Eintracht Frankfurt in a crucial second leg on Thursday after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
At Stamford Bridge, Julio Enciso gave Ipswich Town a surprise lead in the 19th minute, tapping in from Ben Johnson’s pass. The duo reversed roles for the second goal, with Johnson heading home Enciso’s cross in the 31st minute.
Chelsea responded seconds into the second half when Axel Tuanzebe turned Noni Madueke’s cross into his own net. The comeback was completed in the 79th minute by Jadon Sancho, who curled in a brilliant equaliser and pointed to the name on his shirt in a defiant celebration after being booed by home fans.
Chelsea climb to fifth place, but could slip out of the Champions League qualification zone if Newcastle beat Manchester United at St James’ Park later this evening.
