Bayern Munich complained about two controversial handball moments against PSG after crashing out of the Champions League semi-finals.
Paris Saint-Germain are heading to the Champions League final for the second year in a row, but the dramatic semi-final against Bayern Munich left the German side furious with several refereeing decisions.
PSG drew 1:1 against Bayern in Paris and advanced with a 6:5 aggregate victory. The French champions will now face Arsenal in the final in Budapest.
After the match, much of the discussion focused on two controversial moments involving possible handballs inside the PSG penalty area.
The first incident came when Vitinha struck the ball from close range and it deflected onto teammate Joao Neves. Bayern players immediately appealed for a penalty, but the referee waved play on.
The second moment caused even more frustration for the German side. The ball appeared to strike Nuno Mendes inside the box while the PSG full-back was already on a yellow card. Bayern players surrounded the referee, but once again, no penalty was awarded.
Bayern Munich players openly showed their dissatisfaction with the officiating after the final whistle, believing the decisions played a major role in their elimination.
Still, the Germans also admitted they failed to produce their best football across the two legs. PSG looked sharper in key moments and punished Bayern’s defensive mistakes during the tie.
Bayern have already secured the Bundesliga title and still have the DFB-Pokal final ahead of them, but the Champions League exit will leave a bitter feeling in Munich.
The Bavarians last reached the Champions League final in the 2019/20 season, when they defeated PSG 1:0 to lift the trophy.
This time, the Parisians got their revenge and moved one step away from another European crown.
