PSG faces potential Champions League expulsion over unpaid €55M owed to former star Kylian Mbappe. UEFA’s decision looms as the deadline approaches.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is under threat of Champions League expulsion, according to L'Equipe, due to ongoing financial disputes with their former player, Kylian Mbappe. The situation arises from UEFA regulations requiring clubs to confirm by January 15 that they have no outstanding debts to employees or former players.
Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid last summer, is reportedly owed approximately €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses by PSG. Despite two legal victories in French professional football courts, PSG has refused to pay the bonuses, leading to a protracted legal battle.
If UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) determines that PSG is in violation of financial regulations, the club may face severe penalties. These could include:
- Immediate settlement of the debt
- Fines
- Points deduction
- Revenue withholding
- Player registration bans
- Disqualification from UEFA competitions, including the Champions League
Such sanctions would be a massive blow to PSG, who rely heavily on their European performances for financial and sporting prestige.
