UEFA’s financial oversight body has concluded its review of clubs participating in European competitions for the 2023/24 season.
UEFA’s financial control body has completed its examination of the 2023/24 season, reviewing clubs that participated in European competitions. Eight clubs that were under scrutiny, including PSG, Milan, Inter, Monaco, Marseille, Beşiktaş, Trabzonspor, and Antwerp, were cleared of any charges for violating financial regulations.
The review was based on UEFA’s new financial regulations, implemented gradually over the past three years. These rules restrict clubs from spending more than 90% of their revenue on wages and transfers in the first year, with the limit dropping to 80% in the second year and 70% in the third.
However, some clubs were penalized. Aston Villa was fined €60,000 and Marseille was fined €20,000 for delays in submitting financial reports.
The most severe punishment was handed to Roma, which exceeded financial limits and was fined €2 million. Additionally, UEFA issued a stern warning to Başakşehir, threatening a one-year ban from UEFA competitions if the club fails to meet all requirements by the 2024/25 season. The Turkish club will face several restrictions, including a 23-player limit on their A list for the next season, a ban on adding new players to the list, and a €100,000 fine.
