Arman Durmiši, a promising young footballer, recently missed a call-up to the Slovenian U17 national team amid his transfer to Juventus, sparking concerns over his international future.
Arman Durmiši, one of the most talented Slovenian footballers born in 2008, recently transferred to Juventus and missed the call-up to the Slovenian U17 national team, sparking concerns that Slovenia might lose him to another country.
The Slovenian U17 team, led by Goran Cvijanović, is currently unable to count on one of its top talents from the 2008 generation. Many consider Durmiši one of the most promising players of his age group. Due to his absence, there have been public speculations that the young prospect, who recently moved from Koper to Juventus, may no longer represent Slovenia.
According to our information, Durmiši has two other options for his international career besides Slovenia, as his family has lived in the country for several generations. He could also choose to represent North Macedonia or Albania, but would first need to acquire the necessary documentation (citizenship) if he wishes to pursue this path.
Durmiši himself has not publicly commented on this issue, so we reached out to his agent, Nusret Jashari, to clarify his future in international football. Jashari claims that Durmiši has not made any decisions regarding his national team career. He explained that the player had been focused on his transfer to Juventus, which prevented him from joining the national team at the time of the last call-up.
"We were surprised, if not shocked, when we read in some media that Arman Durmiši refused to play for Slovenia. This is his homeland. But if anyone is bothered by Arman representing Slovenia, we will look for other solutions. I want to clarify that during the last national team matches, Arman was sorting out his club status as he was transferring to Juventus," said Jashari.
"The Durmiši family has shown their respect for Slovenia by having Arman sign with Koper, helping the club receive a high transfer fee. I also want to thank Koper president Ante Guberac, who fulfilled Arman and his brother Dajan's dream by selling him to Juventus, despite Koper receiving a better offer from Parma," Jashari added.
While Jashari presented one side of the story, we obtained additional information. The issue in this situation appears to be Arman’s twin brother, Dajan, who was not selected for the U17 national team. This has reportedly caused some dissatisfaction within the family, an issue that may need resolving in the near future.
At this moment, Arman Durmiši has not been definitively lost to Slovenia. Despite being only 16 and just beginning his football career, he will eventually need to make the decision himself. Does he want to play for the country where he was born and raised? If the answer is yes, then there should be no obstacles in continuing his international career with Slovenia, and no conditions should be imposed.
