Real Madrid star Arda Güler created the biggest moment of Turkey’s victory over Macedonia with an assist that quickly went viral.
Turkey comfortably defeated Macedonia 4-0 in Istanbul, but almost everyone left the stadium talking about the same player. Arda Güler only entered the match in the 62nd minute, yet eight minutes later, he produced the moment that completely stole the spotlight.
The goals came from Orkun Kökçü, Can Uzun, Deniz Gül, and Barış Yılmaz, but the final goal quickly became the biggest talking point because of what happened seconds earlier.
Receiving the ball on the right side with his back to goal, the Real Madrid midfielder instantly produced a piece of improvisation. With a clever backheel flick, he played the ball past Irfan Kahveci, completely disrupting Macedonia’s defensive structure and creating space on the flank. Kahveci immediately attacked the open channel and delivered a simple pass toward Yılmaz, who finished comfortably from close range.
The move quickly spread across social media and became the defining image of the match. For many supporters, it was another reminder why Turkey sees Güler as the face of its future.
The 21-year-old already has impressive numbers for the national team, collecting six goals and seven assists in 29 appearances. After announcing himself to a wider audience during the European Championship two years ago, he now prepares for his first World Cup, where Turkey will face Australia, Paraguay and the USA in the group stage.
Transfermarkt currently values the midfielder at around €90 million, and performances like this explain why.
Sometimes one touch says enough.
