Edin Džeko sustained a broken nose during Bosnia and Herzegovina’s win over Romania, after a reckless challenge by Mihai Popescu. No card was shown.
Edin Džeko’s night ended in pain despite his team's victory, as the veteran striker suffered a broken nose in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s match against Romania. The incident occurred in the 35th minute, when Romanian defender Mihai Popescu connected with a high boot that struck Džeko directly in the face.
The Fenerbahçe forward immediately fell to the ground, bleeding from the nose, yet remarkably continued to play until halftime before staying in the locker room for the second half.
Despite the clear contact and visible injury, the referee chose not to show a card to Popescu, a decision that has since drawn criticism online and in the Bosnian media.
The incident did not stop Bosnia and Herzegovina from securing the win, but concerns now turn to Džeko’s condition, with his recovery timeline still unknown. A video of the moment quickly spread on social media, showing the severity of the impact and the striker’s resilience.
