A spectacular Champions League night produced several great saves — but one stood far above the rest.
Jan Oblak is a candidate for the best save of the Champions League evening. UEFA included four other nominees, but the Slovenian goalkeeper really shouldn’t have any serious competition.
UEFA selected five goalkeepers/saves for the shortlist. Yet it’s perfectly clear — and this truly isn’t a subjective claim — that there can only be one save of the night.
What Jan Oblak did last night against Club Brugge is reserved only for the absolute elite of goalkeeping. He has been part of that elite for many years, and there’s no sign he intends to leave it anytime soon.
All of Europe is marvelling today at the save he produced.
