An armed attack at a football match in the Cayman Islands left seven people injured in what police describe as a gang-related, targeted incident.

The local police in the Cayman Islands reported that the armed attack took place late on Sunday in West Bay on Grand Cayman Island, and the police believe it was gang-related.

Four out of the seven injured individuals have already been discharged from the hospital, Police Commissioner Kurt Walton said at a press conference.

"This was a targeted attack. The shooting occurred during the second half of a local football match, which was attended by about 300 people," Walton stated.

It is suspected that the shooter targeted the north stand of the stadium, intending to kill at least two people.
