After reflecting on his future, Serbia coach Veljko Paunović announced he will remain in charge, confirming his decision through a social media message.
Veljko Paunović spent a long time considering stepping down as Serbia’s head coach after the World Cup qualifiers ended with a win over Latvia. But judging by his message on social media, he has finally decided to stay.
The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) appointed Paunović as the new national-team coach on 30 October, replacing Dragan Stojković. After the defeat to England and the victory over Latvia, Paunović stressed that he needed time to reflect on his future and decide whether he would continue on Serbia’s bench.
“It has always been an honour and a duty to answer the call of our national team. I thank the FSS for their trust, the players for their attitude, and the fans who welcomed me so warmly. Football has once again taken me where I am needed and where it all began. Together, we will return Serbian football to where it belongs. See you soon,” Paunović wrote on Instagram, confirming his decision to remain Serbia’s coach.
As a reminder, Serbia did not qualify for the World Cup after finishing third in Group K behind England and Albania.
