Olimpija head coach Victor Sanchez is ignoring discussions about a contract extension as he remains fully focused on winning the league and cup titles.
As Olimpija closes in on a potential domestic double, the question of Victor Sanchez’s future is becoming increasingly pressing. But the Spanish coach, in his first season at the helm, isn't entertaining any talk about his contract just yet.
Despite the Ljubljana-based club holding an option to extend his deal, Sanchez has made it clear he isn’t interested in that conversation right now. His focus remains squarely on winning the PrvaLiga title and lifting the Slovenian Cup.
"I'm only thinking about trophies"
The 48-year-old has enjoyed a strong debut campaign, guiding Olimpija out of the UEFA Conference League group stage, maintaining a solid league run, and now preparing for a cup semi-final clash against Celje.
But when asked about his future, Sanchez didn’t flinch:
"I respect everyone who’s spoken about this topic, but I’m only focused on winning trophies. That’s all that matters right now. Everything else can wait until the end of the season."
Given his success, it's highly possible Sanchez may attract interest from abroad, which could complicate Olimpija's hopes of keeping him long-term. Contractual options may exist, but as is often the case with coaches, mutual ambition will be key to any extension.
