Harry Kane missed Bayern Munich’s 4-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach with a calf injury. Coach Vincent Kompany offered no guarantee the England striker will return for the Champions League match against Atalanta.
Bayern Munich face growing uncertainty over the fitness of Harry Kane ahead of their upcoming Champions League knockout match against Atalanta.
The England captain missed Bayern’s 4-1 Bundesliga victory over Borussia Monchengladbach after suffering a calf injury. The striker did not appear in the matchday squad at the Allianz Arena.
Early reports suggested the absence served as a precaution, yet the situation now appears less clear.
Kane, currently the top scorer in the Bundesliga, continues to recover and his availability for the trip to Bergamo remains uncertain.
After the match, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany spoke cautiously when asked whether the striker would return for the European fixture.
"Hopefully. If he makes it, then great. Otherwise, we'll do it with the guys we have."
The comment sounded more reserved than the manager’s earlier statement, when he described the issue as "nothing serious". Medical staff continues to evaluate the striker’s recovery before making a final decision.
During Kane’s absence, Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson started in attack and rewarded the coach’s trust by scoring. Jamal Musiala also delivered another strong performance as Bayern maintained control of the match.
Even with solid squad depth, the importance of Kane remains clear. The striker’s finishing and leadership represent a major asset for Bayern in high-pressure Champions League matches.
Bayern Munich arrive in strong form, with six consecutive victories in all competitions, and currently sit at the top of the Bundesliga table.
The German champions will travel to Italy on Tuesday for the first leg of their round-of-16 clash with Atalanta, where the presence or absence of Harry Kane could play a decisive role.
