Marko Livaja showed his middle finger to Rijeka fans after scoring in Hajduk’s derby win. The Croatian striker now faces likely disciplinary action.
Marko Livaja, the face of Hajduk Split and one of the most beloved players in Dalmatia, is once again in the spotlight—this time for the wrong reasons.
During Hajduk’s 1–0 win over Rijeka, Livaja converted a first-half penalty that ultimately proved decisive. Though he wasn’t fully fit, the club’s top scorer still started the derby and made his mark before being substituted in the second half.
As he walked off the pitch, Livaja passed the Rijeka supporters’ section, where he likely heard some choice words from the home fans. In response, the Croatian international lifted his hand and showed them the middle finger—a moment caught on video and now widely circulating online.
Although the referee did not see the gesture and Livaja was not punished during the match, the Croatian Football Federation is expected to review the footage. A retrospective suspension or fine appears almost certain.
Livaja is no stranger to heated rivalries and intense atmospheres, particularly when facing Rijeka and Dinamo Zagreb. But this latest outburst could cost him—and Hajduk—dearly in the closing stages of the season.
