Real Madrid paid tribute to Marcelo at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of the Madrid derby, as the recently retired legend bid farewell to fans after a career filled with 25 trophies.
Before the highly anticipated Madrid derby kicked off, Real Madrid held a special ceremony to honor Marcelo, who announced his retirement from football just days earlier. The Santiago Bernabeu crowd gave a heartfelt farewell to one of the club’s most decorated players, celebrating his remarkable contributions in the famous white shirt.
Marcelo, accompanied by his sons Enzo and Liam, took to the pitch to say goodbye to the fans who had witnessed his journey from a promising young talent to a club legend. The Brazilian left-back etched his name into football history during his time with Real, becoming a symbol of the club’s modern era.
As part of the tribute, Luka Modrić, the current Real Madrid captain, presented Marcelo with a framed jersey signed by the entire squad. The ceremony concluded with a team photo, which included all players and even those sidelined by injury.
However, Spanish media were quick to point out that no representatives from Atletico Madrid’s management or coaching staff applauded the tribute, despite Marcelo’s 25-trophy haul in a Real Madrid jersey—a testament to his legendary status.
