Wayne Rooney, former Manchester United and England captain, has addressed a viral video that appeared to show him letting a woman into his apartment.
The clip, which has garnered millions of views online, depicts Rooney in a baseball cap and tracksuit, allegedly welcoming a woman into his flat in Devon, where he currently resides while managing Plymouth Argyle.
Taking to Instagram, Rooney clarified the situation, stating: "I am aware of a video circulating online. The video shows a man and woman looking around my apartment. The couple kindly gave me a lift home and were in there at the same time as my son, who was visiting."
Rooney also pointed out that the footage, filmed last summer, had been edited to create a misleading narrative. "It is annoying that at least one online newspaper has chosen to edit the footage to make it appear as though a woman entered the apartment on her own. That is simply not true," he said.
Since taking over as Plymouth Argyle manager in May, Rooney has been living away from his wife, Coleen, and their four children in Devon. The family remains at their luxurious £20 million six-bedroom mansion in Cheshire. Despite the distance, Rooney and Coleen continue to navigate their high-profile relationship, which has endured public scrutiny and scandals over the years.
During her recent appearance on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, Coleen opened up about their marriage, acknowledging the challenges they’ve faced. "Since the first mistake he’s made, that’s been in the public, people have not forgiven," she said. "It has been difficult, but we’re happy now, after all those years… we’re a team."
The couple, who married in 2008, share four sons: Kai, Klay, Kit, and Cass. Despite past controversies, they continue to stand by one another.
