Former Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed he got a vasectomy after years of watching Mr Tumble with his four sons, joking the children’s TV star “pushed him over the edge.”
Wayne Rooney has shared a hilarious confession about the real reason behind his vasectomy — and it involves children’s entertainer Mr Tumble. The Manchester United legend joked that enduring hours of the CBeebies star with his four sons was enough to convince him to “get the snip.”
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the 39-year-old admitted: “I hate Mr Tumble. I was in the dressing room for Match of the Day and he was next to me. The reason I hate him — well, I don’t hate him for what he does — it’s just that I’ve had to sit through it four times with every kid. It’s got to the point now where I just can’t. He’s the reason I’ve got the snip. I couldn’t have another kid to go through it again.”
Rooney and his wife Coleen, who have been married for 17 years, share four sons — Kai (16), Klay (12), Kit (9), and Cass (7). The former England captain joked that after years of “CBeebies chaos,” he couldn’t face going through the same stage again.
Coleen, however, offered a more heartfelt explanation in a 2023 interview, saying the couple felt their family was “complete” after Cass was born. “I always thought I’d have a few kids, maybe three at the most, but then number four came along and we knew our family was complete then,” she said. “Wayne went in and got the snip so I knew for sure we wouldn’t have any more children.”
The couple first met as 12-year-olds in Liverpool, started dating four years later, and married in 2008. Their eldest, Kai, is already following in his father’s footsteps, starring in Manchester United’s youth team, while Klay is also on the club’s books. Cass currently plays for Everton, and Kit, according to Coleen, has set his sights on becoming a darts player.
While Rooney’s vasectomy may have been the punchline of a light-hearted story, fans couldn’t help but laugh at his relatable confession — proving even footballing icons aren’t immune to the trials of children’s television.
