Argentine midfielder Guido Rodríguez joins West Ham after leaving Betis, choosing the Premier League over a potential move to Barcelona.
Guido Rodríguez (30) will play in the Premier League under Julen Lopetegui at West Ham after rejecting several renewal offers from Betis, opting to let his contract expire and choose his next destination.
While his final destination is the Premier League, it could have been different. For months, he was linked with FC Barcelona, and as reported earlier, negotiations were well underway, capitalizing on his expiring contract. However, the interest in the 30-year-old midfielder waned, especially after Xavi Hernández's departure.
Lopetegui's project is progressing, with new signings continually being added. Guido's addition follows those of Crysencio Summerville (Leeds), Max Kilman (Wolves), Luis Guilherme (Palmeiras), Wes Foderingham (Sheffield United), and Fullkrug (Borussia Dortmund).
Initially, the target was Kanté, but with the inability to sign the Frenchman, the Argentine will now fill the crucial defensive midfield role.
