Patrice Evra criticised Manchester City winger Rayan Cherki after United’s 2-0 derby win, saying the Frenchman “did not respect” the club following earlier comments made after his move from Lyon.

Patrice Evra has aimed a pointed message at Manchester City winger Rayan Cherki following Manchester United’s 2-0 derby victory at Old Trafford.
The former United captain accused his compatriot of “not respecting” the club after City were comfortably beaten in Michael Carrick’s first match in charge.
Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu scored in the second half as United claimed a deserved win, in a match where they also had three goals disallowed and hit the woodwork twice through Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo.
City struggled throughout, managing just one shot on target, with Gianluigi Donnarumma forced into several saves to prevent a heavier defeat.
After the match, attention turned to comments Cherki made earlier this season following his move from Lyon to City.
"I didn’t like it when Manchester United beat Lyon because I am a Lyonnais. Now I am waiting for the game to kill them. I just wanted to go to Manchester City," Cherki had said during City’s pre-season tour.
The 22-year-old started the derby on the bench and came on at half-time for Phil Foden, but failed to make any impact, registering no shots, no chances created, and no successful dribbles.
After United’s win, Evra responded to the resurfaced quotes on social media.
"Amazing player, but when you don’t respect United, that’s what you get. FOREVRA RED," he wrote.
The victory was a major boost for United, who ended a four-game winless run and delivered one of their strongest performances of the season.
For Manchester City, the defeat further damaged their title challenge. Combined with Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, the result leaves City seven points behind the league leaders after 22 matches.
After the game, Pep Guardiola refused to blame the officials, despite claiming Diogo Dalot should have been sent off early on for a challenge on Jérémy Doku.
"The better team won," Guardiola admitted. "They had something we didn’t have — energy. This was my 27th derby here, and today we were not at the level required to win this kind of game."
He added: "It’s a red card, but it would be poor to analyse the game based on that. Even with that, we didn’t play with the energy we needed."
The defeat was City’s sixth game in 17 days, during which they have won only twice, one of those against lower-league Exeter in the FA Cup.
City will look to respond in the Champions League against Bodø/Glimt, before returning to league action against Wolves.
United’s attention now turns to a trip to Arsenal in next weekend’s headline Premier League fixture.
