Jamie Vardy struck twice in Bologna to give Cremonese a huge win and prove, at 38, that his goalscoring instinct remains timeless.
Jamie Vardy has once again shown that age is merely a number. The 38-year-old striker delivered a vintage performance with two goals as Cremonese earned a crucial 3–1 win away at Bologna, ending the home side’s impressive 13-match unbeaten run in Serie A.
On a soaked evening at the Renato Dall’Ara, Vardy produced the kind of instinctive finishing that defined his Premier League career. Cremonese struck first through Martin Payera, and only moments later Vardy punished a defensive mistake to double the lead.
Bologna briefly revived their hopes when Riccardo Orsolini converted a penalty before the break, but Vardy opened the second half with another precise finish to seal the result.
For Bologna, who hoped to close the gap to Milan and Napoli, it was the first home defeat of the season. Cremonese climbed to 11th with 17 points, while Bologna remain sixth on 24 points.
After the match, Vardy delivered his trademark humour.
“All we needed was a bit more English rain — it felt like a Wednesday night back home. The main thing is the three points and getting ourselves back on track.”
Cremonese coach Davide Nicola praised the impact of his veteran striker:
“Working with top players is easy. It’s not only their quality — it’s their character. Vardy arrived with the mentality to help this team, and he shows it every day.”
Vardy joined Cremonese in September on a deal running until the end of the season, with an option to extend if the club secures survival. On current form, his experience and finishing could be decisive.
