Following a heavy defeat to Argentina, Brazil have sacked Dorival Júnior and are now evaluating five prominent candidates to take over ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
he Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is already considering five names to replace Dorival Júnior, who was sacked following Brazil’s crushing 4-1 defeat to Argentina in Buenos Aires in the South American World Cup qualifiers.
The decision came after several days of speculation and marks the end of Dorival’s tenure after just over a year in charge. Brazil went into the match in poor form, far from the standard expected of the five-time world champions, and were thoroughly outclassed by Lionel Scaloni’s side. The four goals conceded could easily have been more.
According to Goal Brasil, the CBF has already drawn up a shortlist of five candidates. Carlo Ancelotti remains the top target. The Italian coach has long been linked with the Brazil job, and with uncertainty surrounding his future at Real Madrid, the CBF could wait until the summer to make a formal move.
Another serious contender is Tité, who led Brazil at two World Cups and remains a respected figure within the national setup. His previous experience at the helm makes him a strong alternative.
The remaining names reportedly under consideration are Filipe Luís, Abel Ferreira, and Renato Gaúcho—each a well-known figure in Brazilian football and each with their own vision to steer the Selecão back on track ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
