Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez discussed Pep Guardiola's potential future with the club in a recent interview for Spanish radio station Cope, suggesting that the manager’s ambition could influence his decision.
Rodri, fresh from winning the men’s Ballon d’Or after securing his fourth consecutive Premier League title and a Euro 2024 victory, reflected on Guardiola’s impact and hinted at what may come next.
Speaking about his individual success and Guardiola’s role, Rodri said, “You want to be surrounded by the best and there will be a before and after Pep. When I signed, they told me that Guardiola was leaving, but he is very ambitious. When he is gone, things will change but City will continue to be City.”
Guardiola’s current contract with Manchester City is set to expire in June 2025, raising questions about his future with the club. Despite ongoing rumors that the 53-year-old might leave after his contract ends, recent reports from England indicate that City’s board remains confident he will renew his deal.
Guardiola has yet to comment on his plans, but with speculation about his next move intensifying, Rodri’s words suggest that Guardiola’s drive may still keep him at the Etihad beyond 2025.
