Matjaž Kek will begin working with footballers who have finished their club seasons. He is expected to reveal the players for Euro 2024 soon.
This week, the first Slovenian national team players will start training as part of preparations for the European Championship in Germany. Among the first to arrive at Brdo pri Kranju will be veteran Jasmin Kurtić, who is expected to retire from international football after Euro 2024.
Head coach Matjaž Kek will announce the squad on Wednesday for the European Championship. He will take 26 players to the tournament, but there are still several uncertainties, primarily due to injuries or fitness concerns for some players.
One of the biggest questions is Kek's decision regarding Josip Iličić. The experienced Maribor player has been in good form this year and has never closed the door on the national team. Iličić concluded his time with the national team under previous circumstances, but the situation now might be different.
According to our information, Kek, who, like other national coaches, has received three additional spots in the squad for the Euro, is considering including Iličić. The final decision of the coach will be known soon.
The final list of players must be submitted to the European Football Association (UEFA) by June 7th.
