Ruben Amorim’s youthful gamble shows promise, but a late Pablo Sarabia free-kick hands United a painful Old Trafford defeat.
Manchester United fell to yet another frustrating Premier League defeat, this time at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who needed just one shot on target—late in the game—to take all three points at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim, prioritizing the Europa League campaign, stayed true to his promise and handed starting roles to academy talents Tyler Fredricson and Harry Amass, alongside young stars Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund, and Kobbie Mainoo.
Despite the experimental lineup and lack of Premier League experience, United dominated possession and created more chances throughout the match. Yet, they lacked sharpness in front of goal and failed to convert their pressure into something tangible on the scoreboard.
Then came the sting. In the 77th minute, Pablo Sarabia stepped up and curled in a precise free kick—Wolves’ only shot on target of the match. It flew past André Onana, who could do little to stop it. It was enough to sink United at home once again.
Amorim’s side showed encouraging signs with the youngsters, but results like this highlight the ongoing inconsistency that has plagued their season.
Next up, Manchester United travel to Bournemouth, while Wolves will host Leicester City as both clubs look to finish their campaigns on a high.
