Wrexham director Humphrey Ker says he’s steering clear of Champions League chatter around Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, joking the Hollywood owners are already “deranged enough.”
Wrexham’s community director Humphrey Ker playfully urged fans and media to stop feeding lofty ideas to co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, saying the pair are already “deranged enough” with ambition after taking the club from the fifth tier to the Championship in just four years.
The Hollywood duo have turned Wrexham into one of football’s most talked-about fairytales, with three consecutive promotions and soaring global attention through the 'Welcome to Wrexham' docuseries. But Ker is hesitant to even joke about Champions League aspirations.
“Do not encourage them! Please, they’re already deranged enough as it is, I can’t be putting Champions League in their mind,” Ker said on the Sports Agent podcast. “Let’s start with doing alright in the Championship.”
Wrexham, now just one step away from the Premier League, face a tougher challenge in the second tier, especially with their modest matchday infrastructure. The club recently removed 3,000 temporary seats, leaving their stadium with a 10,000 capacity.
“We are a small lot,” Ker admitted. “Our matchday revenues are not massive, our sponsorship revenue is very large and disproportionately large for a club of our size.”
That commercial power has helped manager Phil Parkinson shape an ambitious squad for the 2025/26 season, with global fan support continuing to drive Wrexham's momentum on and off the pitch.
