Wrexham are in talks to sign Danny Ings on a free transfer after his West Ham exit, but Spurs have blocked a move for Ben Davies by triggering a one-year extension.
Wrexham are eyeing a shock move for former West Ham United striker Danny Ings as they look to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Championship.
According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, talks have taken place between Ings and Wrexham’s representatives. The 31-year-old forward, who earned three caps for England, is set to leave West Ham as a free agent after scoring five goals in 69 appearances for the club.
Wrexham’s celebrity co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are aiming to make a competitive return to the second tier of English football for the first time since 1982. With promotion secured, they’re targeting experienced names to guide the club through a challenging new campaign.
However, they appear to have missed out on one of their Premier League targets. Ben Davies, the 32-year-old Tottenham Hotspur and Wales defender, had been on Wrexham’s radar. But Spurs recently triggered a contract option that extends his stay in North London until 2026, effectively ending Wrexham’s hopes of signing him this summer.
Despite rumours linking the club to stars like Kevin De Bruyne and Jamie Vardy, Wrexham’s strategy advisor Les Reed recently cautioned against unrealistic transfer expectations. Still, Wrexham have shown ambition before, signing seasoned players such as Ben Foster, James McClean, and Steven Fletcher.
With their Championship campaign looming, the Red Dragons are expected to be active in the market as they seek proven quality to match their rising ambitions.
