Wrexham’s Hollywood rise earns respect from Tony Pulis, who also urges Manchester United not to let veteran Jonny Evans leave for the Red Dragons this summer.
Wrexham continue to capture global attention for their extraordinary rise through English football, and now, praise is coming from one of the game’s most respected figures. Former Premier League boss Tony Pulis has hailed Wrexham’s achievements under Phil Parkinson, crediting the team for focusing on results despite the “nonsense” around owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
“Wrexham have done fantastic. Irrespective of all the nonsense that's going on around the place with the film stars and all that stuff, Phil Parkinson has done a fantastic job,” Pulis told OLBG. “Three promotions on the bounce, it's an amazing achievement.”
The Welsh club have climbed from the National League to the Championship in just three seasons under Hollywood ownership, with every step of the way documented in the hit series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
As they prepare for life in the second tier, Wrexham are again being linked with experienced names — most notably Manchester United veteran Jonny Evans. But Pulis, who coached the 37-year-old at West Brom, believes United should think twice before letting him leave.
“If I was Manchester United, I would keep Jonny and stick him in the academy as a coach,” he said. “At West Brom, he was by far the best player we had there.”
Pulis praised Evans' professionalism and football IQ: “He’s absolutely first class... as a footballer and a person. So if Wrexham were going to do it, I’d say great signing. But if I were United, I’d find a place for him in the academy.”
For now, Wrexham’s players are enjoying another all-expenses-paid Las Vegas trip courtesy of Reynolds and McElhenney, before turning their focus to Championship recruitment ahead of the 2025/26 season.
