Dani Ceballos is edging closer to the exit door at Real Madrid after Xabi Alonso made it clear he does not feature in his plans for the season.
The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder is now in talks over a move to Olympique Marseille, with Marca reporting that the Ligue 1 club are the frontrunners to sign him. Discussions between Real Madrid and Marseille are ongoing, with a loan deal including a purchase option currently on the table.
Marseille’s ambitious project under Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi has already made headlines this summer, and the club are now targeting Ceballos to add experience and depth in midfield. The Velodrome’s fiery atmosphere is seen as an added attraction for the player, who is keen to revive his career with more consistent playing time.
Ceballos joined Real Madrid from Real Betis in 2017 but never fully established himself in the starting XI. He also spent two seasons on loan at Arsenal, where he gained valuable Premier League experience. Now, with Alonso focused on other options, his time at the Bernabéu appears to be coming to an end.
