Former Barcelona boss Xavi has been approached by Bayer Leverkusen as a possible replacement for Xabi Alonso and hasn't ruled out the idea of taking over.
Xavi Hernandez could make a quick return to management, with reports in Germany suggesting Bayer Leverkusen have already contacted him about the position that will soon be vacated by Xabi Alonso.
According to the reputable outlet Kicker, Leverkusen are actively considering Xavi as a potential successor to Alonso, who is widely expected to take over at Real Madrid this summer. Alonso has guided Leverkusen to a sensational season, putting the club in line for a historic Bundesliga title.
Xavi stepped down from his role at Barcelona earlier this year, citing burnout and pressure as key reasons. He had planned to take a break from coaching, but the Leverkusen project has reportedly sparked his interest.
Kicker states that initial conversations have already taken place and that Xavi did not say no “right away,” indicating a degree of openness to the proposal. The potential move would not only preserve the club’s recent trend of Spanish-speaking managers but could also bring continental prestige and tactical evolution to Leverkusen’s bench.
It remains to be seen whether talks will advance, but the idea of Xavi stepping in after Alonso adds an intriguing twist to the Bundesliga’s coaching carousel.
