Lamine Yamal marked his historic Laureus award with a relaxed moment, enjoying fast food on his private jet after another milestone season.
Lamine Yamal celebrated his latest milestone in a simple way, enjoying McDonald’s on a private jet after winning a historic Laureus award.
The Barcelona star, now 18, received the inaugural Young Sportsperson of the Year prize, adding to the Breakthrough award he won in 2025.
The Laureus World Sports Awards recognize top athletes across all sports. Since their launch in 2000, only Lionel Messi has won the main men's award as a footballer.
With this latest honor, Yamal becomes the youngest athlete ever to win two Laureus awards.
After the ceremony, he shared a photo from his jet, eating nuggets and fries, with a short message:
"Quick trip!"
On stage, Yamal spoke about the significance of the award.
" I am very happy to be the first to receive this award. It is a source of pride," he said.
" I believe sport has the power to change the world. This represents a new generation of athletes."
His rise has been rapid. This season, he has recorded 23 goals and 15 assists, while Barcelona is close to another La Liga title.
He has already won the European Championship with Spain and finished as runner-up for the Ballon d’Or.
Yamal also paid tribute to Lionel Messi, calling him the greatest player in history and a key inspiration.
"He’s more than an idol. I hope I can follow his path," he said.
Elsewhere at the ceremony, Carlos Alcaraz won Sportsman of the Year, while Aryna Sabalenka claimed the women’s award. Paris Saint-Germain were named team of the year, and Lando Norris received the breakthrough award.
For Yamal, the night confirmed his place among the world’s top young athletes, both on and off the pitch.
