AC Milan has taken a revolutionary and commendable step in women's football by implementing a new maternity leave policy, addressing a significant issue faced by many female players.
The Italian giant has introduced an innovative policy that guarantees support during pregnancy and for the first eight years following childbirth.
The new initiative, effective immediately, includes a crucial provision for automatic contract extensions. If a player becomes pregnant during the final year of her contract, AC Milan will automatically extend her contract under the same terms as the expiring one. This move ensures that players who wish to start a family will no longer have to worry about their job security in football.
Additionally, AC Milan has committed to ensuring the safety of children during their mothers' recovery periods and early months of parenting. The club will also cover travel and accommodation expenses not only for the child but also for one accompanying caregiver during sports activities or other duties involving the mothers.
This admirable initiative by AC Milan sets a new standard in women's football, and it is hoped that other clubs across Europe and beyond will follow suit.
