Carlo Ancelotti has not signed with Brazil despite agreeing on terms. Real Madrid wants him to finish the season and coach at the Club World Cup.
Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly rejected Brazil’s job offer — for now — and not because of money. According to Marca, the Italian coach had a verbal agreement with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), but refrained from signing the contract out of respect for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid allowed Ancelotti to negotiate with Brazil, but refused to greenlight any official commitment while the 65-year-old is still under contract. The club is wary of disrupting the team’s final stretch of the season, with La Liga and the Club World Cup still on the line.
The CBF wanted Ancelotti to take charge immediately after the Spanish season ends on May 26. However, Real Madrid expect Ancelotti to lead the team into the FIFA Club World Cup this summer in the United States.
Though initial rumors suggested Ancelotti was demanding compensation from Real to leave early, Marca states that money is not a factor. Instead, the issue lies in timing and professional protocol.
Santiago Solari has been considered as a potential interim coach if Ancelotti had chosen to depart early, but that appears unlikely now. The long-term succession plan still points to Xabi Alonso, who is reportedly in negotiations to take over at the Bernabéu next season.
There’s also a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia on the table for Ancelotti — said to be worth around €50 million per year — but the Italian remains focused on finishing the campaign with Madrid.
Whether Brazil are willing to wait or move on remains to be seen, but the coaching saga is far from over.
