Steve Bould leaves his role as Lommel SK head coach after two and a half seasons, citing family reasons. Lommel now faces a crucial search for a new leader amid their promotion struggles.
Steve Bould, who spent two and a half years at Lommel SK, has stepped down as head coach of the City Group-owned club and will return to the UK. Bould, a former Arsenal player and coach, helped Lommel reach the play-off final last season, where they narrowly missed out on promotion to Belgium’s top flight after a two-legged defeat to Kortrijk.
Lommel’s struggles this season
Lommel began this campaign with hopes of pushing for promotion, but their performance has fallen short of expectations. The club currently sits 21 points behind league leaders Zulte Waregem and 15 points adrift of the second automatic promotion spot. While still only three points off the play-off places, Lommel’s prospects are dimmed by a five-game winless streak, with their last victory coming in early November—a 3-1 win over Club NXT.
City Group's next move
Bould’s departure adds to the uncertainty surrounding the team, which remains part of the ambitious City Group football project. The club will now need to find a successor capable of reigniting their push for promotion in a competitive league.
