Spanish goalkeeper David Raya continues his outstanding start to the season, emerging as the hero for Arsenal in their away match against Atalanta.
David Raya, Arsenal’s goalkeeper, has been in exceptional form at the start of the new season, leading many excited fans on social media to proclaim him as "the best goalkeeper in the world right now."
If we focus solely on his performances this season, the praise seems well-deserved. In August, Raya won the Save of the Month award for his brilliant stop against Aston Villa, he shone in the North London derby against Tottenham, and he was the key figure in Arsenal’s Champions League opener against Atalanta, where his crucial interventions earned Arsenal a point.
The highlight of the match came when Raya spectacularly saved a penalty from Mario Retegui, but it was his reaction to the rebound that left fans and even Mikel Arteta in awe.
"That was one of the best saves I’ve ever seen in my life," said Arteta after the game.
Raya, born in Barcelona, has spent his entire professional career in England, moving there at the age of 17 and starting his journey in the youth team of Blackburn Rovers.
