Atletico Madrid begins negotiations to permanently sign defender Clement Lenglet from Barcelona, offering €8 million, while the Catalans demand €12 million.
Atletico Madrid have officially initiated talks to permanently acquire French defender Clement Lenglet from Barcelona, following his successful loan spell in the Spanish capital.
Since joining Atletico on loan in October, Lenglet has found stability and impressive form under coach Diego Simeone. The Frenchman quickly earned a regular place, making 25 appearances for Los Colchoneros so far this season, convincing club officials to pursue a permanent transfer in the summer.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Atletico has already tabled an initial bid of €8 million, while Barcelona is holding out for €12 million. With the difference not substantial, it seems likely both clubs will reach an agreement ahead of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona clearly no longer sees Lenglet in their long-term plans, even though the defender’s current contract runs until June 2026. After unsuccessful previous loan spells with Tottenham and Aston Villa, Lenglet appears to have found his form and confidence at Atletico, making Madrid his likely permanent home.
Lenglet has made 25 appearances this season, earning Diego Simeone's trust as a consistent starter and becoming an integral part of Atletico’s defense.
Negotiations are expected to continue smoothly, given that both clubs have ample time to bridge the small gap in their valuations before June.
