Barcelona’s 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal has been crowned Golden Boy 2024, continuing the club’s dominance of this prestigious award for young players under 21.
For the third time in the last four years, the Golden Boy award has gone to a player from Barcelona, with 17-year-old Lamine Yamal claiming the prestigious title this year.
The award, handed out annually by Italian outlet Tuttosport to the best player under the age of 21, came as no surprise this time. Yamal, Barcelona’s teenage phenomenon, has enjoyed an extraordinary year, both at the club and international level.
Despite his young age, Yamal has established himself as a vital player for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team, helping Spain win Euro 2024 over the summer. His impact on the field has been undeniable, and his performances have earned him global recognition.
So far this season, Yamal has delivered impressive numbers, scoring six goals and providing eight assists in just 16 appearances across all competitions. Although he is currently sidelined due to injury, the winger is expected to return soon and contribute further to Barcelona’s campaign.
Barcelona’s dominance in this award category has been remarkable. Over the last four years, the club has produced three Golden Boy winners, all of whom are key figures in the team coached by Hansi Flick. In 2021, Pedri took the award, followed by Gavi in 2022. Last year, the accolade went to Jude Bellingham, now at Real Madrid.
The Golden Boy award, first introduced in 2003, has a history of recognizing the brightest young talents in football, and Yamal is its latest star. Barcelona’s ability to develop top-tier youth players is once again on full display.
This Saturday, Barcelona faces Las Palmas in La Liga, and there’s a strong chance that Yamal could feature in the match if he recovers in time.
