The experienced defender is moving to Beijing Guoan in a surprise late transfer move.
ust when it seemed the winter transfer window had closed for Red Star Belgrade, an unexpected departure was confirmed—Uroš Spajić has been given permission to join Beijing Guoan.
According to Mozzart Sport, the Serbian centre-back will move on a free transfer, despite having a year left on his contract. The deal is set to be finalized before midnight, when the Chinese transfer window closes.
Spajić rejoined Red Star in December 2022, playing a key role in the Champions League campaign and the club’s domestic success. As a gesture of appreciation for his contributions, the club allowed him to leave without a transfer fee.
His exit marks the fifth defensive departure for Red Star in this winter transfer window. Before him, Nasser Djiga was sold to Wolverhampton, Vanja Drkušić returned to Zenit, Stefan Leković joined Monza on loan, and Miloš Degenek signed with TSC as a free agent.
With these changes, Red Star will field its youngest-ever centre-back duo in the upcoming Eternal Derby against Partizan.
The defensive line will now be led by Andrej Đurić and Veljko Milosavljević, with backups Keimer Sandoval, who arrived from Real Betis, and Mustapha Fall, a product of the club’s youth team. However, with a comfortable lead in the standings, Red Star is in a position to integrate its young talents without significant risk to its title ambitions.
