Ferario Spasov, a revered figure in Bulgarian football management, has died following a high-velocity car accident.
He was at the helm of Dunav Lom, a Bulgarian football club, at the time of his death.
Local news sources report that the fatal crash took place around 5 pm near Veliko Tarnovo on the main thoroughfare connecting Sofia and Varna.
Spasov, 61, was on his way back to Lovech after a game where Dunav faced off against Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa.
The crash ensued when Spasov's vehicle was rear-ended by a high-performance Mercedes. Spasov succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.
The collision also resulted in injuries to two passengers in the Mercedes.
CSKA Sofia, where Spasov previously coached, extended their heartfelt condolences.
Their official statement read: "With profound grief and sorrow, we announce the passing of CSKA's former coach Ferario Spasov in a vehicular accident near Veliko Tarnovo.
"The board, athletes, coaching team, and all CSKA staff extend their deepest sympathies to the family and acquaintances of Ferario Spasov."
Botev Plovdiv, another one of Spasov's past clubs, joined in commemorating their late manager.
Spasov's management career spanned over two decades, starting in 1996. During his expansive career, he managed 18 different squads, securing a Bulgarian League championship in the 1998/99 season and a Bulgarian Cup victory in 2000/01. He also served as the coach for Bulgaria's Under 17 team.
Before embarking on his management career, Spasov played as a midfielder from 1979 to 1993.
