Barcelona and Atlético Madrid played out a thrilling 4-4 draw in the Copa del Rey, but coach Hansi Flick was critical of his team’s defensive lapses.
Football fans were treated to a spectacular eight-goal thriller in the Copa del Rey clash between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, but for Hansi Flick, the result was far from satisfactory. Despite his team scoring four goals, the Barcelona coach was frustrated by their defensive frailties.
“We played a good match, but conceding four goals is too much. Our approach and mentality were right, but we need to work on some details. We defended well for 75 minutes, then we collapsed. The fourth goal we conceded was unbelievable—we need to discuss it,” said Flick.
While disappointed with his team’s defensive display, Flick did highlight the performance of Barcelona’s young players, emphasizing their potential.
“The way our young players perform is inspiring. The last ten minutes frustrated me, but aside from that, I’m pleased with how we played,” added the former Bayern Munich coach.
Barcelona’s defensive inconsistency remains a concern as they continue their campaign in domestic and European competitions, with Flick keen to tighten up the backline while maintaining their attacking flair.
