Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic returned to the Bernabéu to support close friend Luka Modrić during his final home appearance for Real Madrid.
Mateo Kovacic was spotted at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday evening to pay tribute to his former teammate and fellow Croatian, Luka Modrić, as the Real Madrid legend played his final home game for the club.
Real Madrid hosted Real Sociedad in their final La Liga match of the 2024/25 season, a fixture that marked the end of an era. Both Modrić and manager Carlo Ancelotti are set to leave the club after this campaign, prompting an emotional send-off from the home crowd.
Joining the sea of supporters was Manchester City midfielder Kovacic, who played at Real Madrid between 2015 and 2019 and shared the pitch with Modrić for both club and country. According to journalist Sergio Quirante, Kovacic made the trip to the Spanish capital to show support for his friend on this significant occasion.
Modrić, now 39, leaves behind a legendary legacy at Madrid, having made nearly 600 appearances and won 28 trophies, including five Champions League titles. His departure, along with Ancelotti's, signals the closing of a golden chapter in the club's storied history.
