Jack Grealish finally ended his long wait for a Premier League goal by scoring just two minutes into Manchester City’s match against Leicester, ending a 473-day drought dating back to 16 December 2023.
The English midfielder’s third league goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time, as City secured a vital 1-0 win in the race for the title. The early breakthrough was the result of sloppy midfield play from Leicester, with Ndidi losing possession under pressure from multiple City players.
Jeremy Doku pounced on the loose ball, evaded several tackles, and slipped a clever pass into the box for Savinho. The Brazilian winger, on loan from Girona, faked a cross before spotting Grealish arriving unmarked from deep.
The England international took the opportunity in full stride, meeting the ball with a composed first-time right-footed finish to give City the lead. It was Grealish's first top-flight goal in over a year, marking a crucial personal and team milestone.
“It feels amazing to score again. I’ve been working hard, and I just wanted to help the team,” Grealish said post-match. His form had been under intense scrutiny this season, but this goal may reignite his confidence heading into the final stretch.
Managed by Ruud van Nistelrooy, Leicester continue to struggle and remain in the relegation zone. Meanwhile, City’s win keeps them firmly in the title race.
